Songwriting
This is the DanSon Laboratory where magic happens and creative music ideas are born. The creative process covers lyrics, melody, harmony and rhythm.
Songwriting for DanSon is a matter of collaboration too. Our group is blessed with several members with composing skills. Our singers also contribute with great harmonic ideas, blending contemporary styles with Afro-Cuban tradition. Each of us brings unique experiences and musical styles to the table, creating a rich mosaic of sounds and narratives.
Our songs are more than lyrics, melodies, harmonies and rhythm. They are a sum of intimate stories of our journeys and personal interpretations of the vibrant cultures we have come in contact with. Our songwriting is the best possible representation of the most interesting new music concepts this collaborative and dynamic process produces.
Rehearsing
After songwriting meeting up is a symphony of coordination, testing of new ideas and refining. Each rehearsal and meeting is a masterclass in collaboration. These meet-ups are not just about practicing; they are about bending and putting to test the results of our songwriting and creative processes into the cohesive sound that defines DanSon.
The testing process is meticulous, involving not just the set-list but also the visual and interactive elements of our shows to ensure an immersive experience for the audience. The songs’ lyrics are not simply sung, they are interpreted, conveying meaning and feeling.
The testing includes how we dress, and how we move around the stage, set the mood, engage the crowd and steer our audience towards their memorable experience.
We strive for a consistent sound and an enjoyable groove. The music is just one part of a total choreographed performance that includes verbal and musical interactions, moves and dance.
The musical director holds separate sessions for each section, the vocal, the horn, and the rhythm section. This is followed up with a final rehearsal resulting in the result that meets all our desired requirements and specifications.
We are not done until we are done.
Recording Sessions
Our recording sessions are the apex of our creative process.
The recording studio is where DanSon’s vibrant energy and creativity endure a final and rigorous test. Here, each of us pours our soul into every beat and lyric. The process is intense, euphoric and exhaustive, often running late into the night. But the result is always worth it – a raw, authentic sound that captures the essence of Latin music in the DanSon way.
Our recording session experience is a cornerstone for our public performances. We carry the quality of our music together with the excitement and engagement we feel during our recording sessions forward into our life presentations.
Performance
This is our opportunity to bring all our efforts to fruition. We are DanSon. We immerse ourselves in a state of mindfulness to be fully present for our audience, aware of who we are, where we are and why.
Planning for the Future: Festivals in the Netherlands
Looking ahead, DanSon is buzzing with excitement for our upcoming festival appearances in the Netherlands. These events are significant not just as performances but as cultural exchanges.
